Heinz champions healthy eating in new school campaign

Heinz Foodservice recently launched its Eating Healthy with Heinz campaign, complete with fun and educational kits, to encourage children to eat healthily at school and learn more about what goes into their favourite food products. As part of the campaign, Heinz is offering primary schools across the UK free educational kits to promote healthy eating, in line with its low sugar and salt Heinz range.

Full of fun and informative ideas and activities, the kits will help schools to teach students about healthier eating and where their food comes from. They include tray liner quizzes, guessing games, word searches, and mindful colouring of the different foods and Heinz products. There is even a tomato ketchup recipe and a grow your own beans in a can experiment. Certificates and reward stickers will also be included to recognise children for taking part in the activities. A social media competition for those with kits will also be in action for schools to share their healthy-eating themed activities on Facebook and Instagram, tagging @HeinzUK in order to receive personalised gifts emblazoned with the school’s name.

Lockdown has had a considerable impact on people’s dining habits, with more than a quarter of people saying that they have been eating less healthily during lockdown, according to a YouGov survey by the British Nutrition Foundation. And while the work of Christina Adane and Marcus Rashford provided free school meals over the summer, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity found that the inequality gap regarding nutrition has widened during lockdown. Part one of the recently released National Food Strategy – the first major review of our food system in 75 years – highlighted that “in the post-lockdown recession, many more families will struggle to feed themselves adequately. A government that is serious about ‘levelling up’ must ensure that all children get the nutrition they need.”

Claire Traynor, head of foodservice for northern Europe for Kraft Heinz, said: “A nutritious diet should be a cornerstone of every childhood. Our new Heinz low sugar and salt range means that, after months of lockdown, parents can send their children back to school confident that they will be consuming healthy meals. In addition, our fun and educational kits will also help nourish their minds, providing memorable ways for teachers and school caterers to educate the nation’s children about the food that they are eating, ultimately helping them to make healthier choices throughout their lives.”

Schools wishing to get their hands on one of the limited edition free kits should e-mail their name, school name and address to [email protected].
