School meals a priority for 84% of parents

ParentPay Group has issued a new state of the nation review of school meal provision across the UK, having surveyed almost a quarter of a million parents and carers.

The study found that the ability to have a hot meal is the top reason why over 84% of pupils have a school meal at least once a week, and 58% have one every day. The results also revealed that of the 24% of respondents who were entitled to free school meals, 88% were using them. Also, 93% stated that school meals improved the quality of life for them and/or their children.

Brad Pearce, chair of LACA, said: “With more than half of all children having a school meal every day, we encourage all schools and caterers to continue to work together to create practical and beautiful dining spaces where children can enjoy tasty, nutritious and appealing meals, while spending quality time with their friends away from the classroom.”
